The Wall Street Journal Did A Grammar Power Ranking Of Every MLB Fanbase And It Looks Like Chicago Is Smarter Than The World

(Source) The New York Mets are one of the best teams in the world at doing things poorly. This is the franchise that once sent out a news release about the firing of its manager at 3 a.m., moved in the outfield fences of its six-year-old stadium twice and is still paying Bobby Bonilla more than $1 million a year for the next two decades even though Bonilla hasn’t appeared in an MLB game since 2001.

Now The Count is prepared to bestow more ignominy on the Mets: Their fans have the worst command of the English language.  In April, we recruited automated-proofreading company Grammarly to evaluate NFL fan bases on their grammar, spelling and punctuation. The findings rocked the NFL: At the bottom of the list were the Redskins. Grammarly used the same methodology for MLB teams. It reviewed 150 reader comments from the news section of each team website—10,592 total words, on average, per team. Mets fans had the most errors, making 13.9 mistakes per 100 words. It’s quite fitting considering the team’s unofficial slogans in past World Series years—“Ya Gotta Believe” (1973) and “Baseball Like It Oughta Be” (1986)—were littered with typographical errors.

Intuitively this makes perfect sense right? The Mets, Phillies, Detroit and Kansas City (poorer St. Louis even though St. Louis is hell on earth) all rounding out the top for the most grammatically incorrect fanbases on the internet. Then real cities like Chicago, San Diego, Seattle proving their worth to the world yet again. The one thing that seems odd here is Cleveland, coming in last place or the most grammatical correct city. That makes no sense right? Well I’ve done some thinking and I realized something, if you aren’t literate and don’t even own a computer can you really make grammatical errors on the internet? So congrats Cleveland, you finally won something, even though you won’t be able to read this unless you go to the local Library and pay your 25 cents for 10 minutes on the internet. We’ll send you your certificate in the mail, little 2 for 1 with the “beating the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs even though the Cavs have never won a title” trophy we were going to send anyway.

If I made any grammatical errors in this blog (I’m sure I did) just count me as a Cardinals fan. #BFIB!
